If they stop, everything will come to an end: a case of Mitochondria
The patient is a woman who has been married for a year, but without becoming pregnant due to polycystic ovaries. She was in acute distress.
Meeta Nihlani (MN): What are you experiencing right now?
Patient (P): a pressure, a compression (HG: compressing both hands). I’m burdened with some weight, a heavy load. My heart is compressed, as though it is weighed down under layers of heaviness. It is expanded, it has been flattened (she takes a deep breath). As if my heart wants to pump but is not able to (HG). Its function is stopped, it does not have the capacity to pump. It can feel the pressure but it does not have any energy.
MN: What is the experience?
P: burdened, compressed, congested, packed. My body feels full (HG). It has stopped, there’s no movement. Stable at a point. I am not able to breathe. It does not have any space. High density. As if you drew something and you have packed it with many lines. Chak, chak chak… (HG: she draws a rectangle with many horizontal and vertical lines in the air, like a grid).
MN: Explain this ...
P: dense, like condensed milk. It becomes heavy. It will become congested, it wants to release and become light. A big stone is broken into small stones. It will become lighter. A heavy stone settles down in the bottom (HG: pressing her hands towards the ground). It is heavy and unable to function.
MN: Explain this... (same HG)
P: like a boat. If you put some heavy stones in it, it will sink. It will not be able to function. It will be depressed. It is like one is trying to function and give life and soul to it, but is unable to function.
I work hard professionally, but I don’t get results. I feel the same depression. I want to leave everything. Uselessness, aimlessness. I am not able to do anything, but I have such a desire that I try again. I don’t want to lose. I feel like this is the end. Heaviness, like a stone with many layers piled on. As though going to the coal mines, where we have something in the core of the earth. As we go down towards the core, one feels the pressure and compression.
MN: Explain that pressure and compression?
P: (HG: both hands coming together) Congested and tight.
We have a banana tree, it was overloaded with bananas. I was experiencing the same thing.
We observe that pressure, congestion, restriction are running throughout the case. We don’t know what pressure means for her but it is obviously her main issue. Let’s try to expose its opposite – that way we may get some more information.
MN: Opposite?
P: when I feel energetic, I can work well. I am able to manage everything properly. I can fulfill my responsibilities, it gives a kind of satisfaction. I could do so many things. You are doing things you are born for. I feel my life is worthwhile, otherwise it is useless. I don’t have any energy and I feel like dying.
MN: What was the best time of your life?
P: I felt energetic. I used to be top at my school and my town. I did not feel any weakness. I could study all the time. If you get a heavy project, you can work consistently work until you get results! Consistently.
It is totally out of blue… Pressure’s opposite is energetic! Working consistently, functioning consistently.
MN: Explain “consistently”?
P: something that does not stop.
MN: Explain something in nature which does not stop?
P: like air, sun, light, water. They work consistently, they have energy. If they stop, everything will come to an end. Like air is flowing, it is flowing consistently. How can others breathe without it? The sun has to work. It is giving light. For it, everything is one and it has to give.
MN: Explain more...
P: it is giving energy and the world is working. Everything is alive due to its energy, all the trees, leaves, all forms of life. It has power.
MN: Explain “power”...
P: it has the capacity, the energy to do things. It has so much energy that it can give life to the world.
MN: Explain the word “function”
P: doing an action. It is the work of water to give life, air to give breath, sun to give light.
MN: Explain “action”.
P: it is important. If you look at a cell, it has to function. If you switch on a fan, it functions, but only if it gets power. Every cell has mitochondria; ATP is made and energy is released and the cell functions. I don’t know much about chemistry and physics. It’s like this current is coming and making it function.
She reminds us about the functioning quality of mitochondria. The case becomes clear, but still we do not know the meaning of the role of congestion, load and pressure in the functioning of the cell.
MN: In general what is “functioning”?
P: it is living. Living is functioning.
MN: What is your idea about living?
P: if you are not able to do anything for others your life has no meaning. Like a tree, it gives fruits to others. It does not eat its own fruit. It does not think who will eat it: whoever needs it, will have it. It will get whatever it requires. Basic needs air, water, sun. Most important is the sun's energy. It gives life. It is the basic energy. First trees, then other forms.
MN: Basic...?
P: it is the source. It is the origin (HG - something spreading out from the fingers).
It originates and spreads. It is not restricted. You will spread even if you don’t want to, the way light spreads through a hole, radiating. (HG). It is its quality, it has to spread, like a light that illuminates the whole room.
MN: Explain more...
P: (she pauses and closes her eyes). When something spreads it is not seen. Through a hole it
can be seen, but later it cannot be seen. I can feel like light that’s
restricted to a small space. What am I talking about (she smiles)! Like
water is flowing from a restricted place; it will feel condensed, because its
quality is to flow and you are restricting its flow. It should spread, otherwise it can
irrigate only that particular area. If it is allowed to flow, it can help to
irrigate a broader area.
MN: Explain Irrigation?
P: you will give life and crops will grow. If we plant seeds and they do not get water and sunlight, they will not transform from seeds to plants.
MN: Explain that transformation?
P: this is life. This is becoming a sprout, a seed to a plant (HG).
Now the congestion is become clear as an opposite of the functioning quality of mitochondria, which is ‘spreading’.
MN: What if this transformation does not happen?
P: it dies. Death.
MN: Explain death?
P: there is no energy. Only the body remains. Only the dead body is there, with no function.
MN: Tell me about your experience in dysmenorrhoea?
P: there is congestion and a lot of blood. Pain in my back and weakness, I feel like sleeping. I feel like the blood should flow.
MN: Food desires?
P: I like potatoes, sago, starch, they give me energy. I have a tendency to suffer from hypoglycemia. I want to eat, otherwise I will faint. My blood pressure becomes low. I can’t eat much at a time.
MN: Tell me about “I don’t like boundaries.”
P: I like meeting everybody. I can’t stay in a restricted area. I don’t like being differentiated by castes and creed. A doctor can never stop treating someone because of their caste. A teacher cannot differentiate by caste. They should give unconditionally, without discrimination. Everything is the same for you. You are a teacher, you do your work. Whatever work you are destined to, you work accordingly. If you are a doctor, you should take care of students. I don’t like a division, separation. Not looking with oneness!
Analysis
Compressed/Pressed/ Loaded/ Restricted
• Pressure; Compression
• I’m burdened with some weight; heavy load; many layers piled on.
• My body feels full
• No movement
• Packed; it does not have any space
• High density; dense, like condensed milk
• Like a boat: if you put heavy stones in it, it will sink
• Congested and tight
Opposite of congested/pressured/restricted
• Expanded
• It wants to release and become light
• A big stone is broken in to small stones and then it will become lighter.
In the initial part of the case we have expressions which are obvious but we don’t know their meaning, but as the case unfolded it becomes clear. Congestion restricts ‘functioning’. Let’s see what ‘functioning’ means in the case…
Work/ Function/ Energy
• Energetic
• Weakness
• As if the heart wants to pump but is not able to: its function is stopped
• It does not have any energy.
• There are layers of weight and the heart is not able to pump
• It will not be able to function. It will be depressed.
• One is trying to function and giving life and soul to the work, but is not able to function.
• When I feel energetic, I can work well. I could do so many things.
• You are doing things which you are born for.
• If you get a heavy project, you can work consistently until you get results.
• Consistently - something which does not stop.
• If they stop, everything will come to an end.
• The sun has to work. It is the function of water to give life, air to give breath, sun to give light.
• It is giving energy and the world is working.
• Everything is alive due to its energy.
• It has so much energy that it can give life to the world.
• Function - Doing an action.
• If you look at a cell, it has to function.
• Every cell has mitochondria, ATP is made and energy is released and the cell functions.
• It is living. Living is functioning.
Now, it is clear that ‘function’ is related to the physiological function of the body or cell, so the case belongs to Sarcodes. Our next aim is to find out the pattern or quality of function, the function gives life to the body. “You have to work consistently” and for that you need energy: the result of ‘functioning’ is getting ‘life’, so this is the quality of cellular function. She beautifully correlates this with the function of mitochondria, so the case becomes clear.
Other qualities of the function of mitochondria:
Spreading/ flowing and opposite restriction/ congestion
• It originates and spreads.
• It is starting from there and spreading. It is not restricted.
• You spread even if you don’t want to, like a light spreads through a hole. Spreading is its quality.
• When something spreads it is not seen.
• Like water that is flowing from a restricted place, it will feel condensed because its quality is to flow, not to be constricted.
• It should spread. It can irrigate only in that particular area. If allowed to flow it can irrigate a broader area.
Prescription: Mitochondria 1M
Seven doses were given as required in the course of the following year and a half. During that time she improved enormously. She is now much more stable, both mentally and emotionally, and her energy levels are improved. She delivered a beautiful and healthy baby. No doses have been required for the last five months.
Differentiating Mitochondria from ATP by Ghanshyam Kalathia
What is difference between ATP and mitochondria as a remedy? The difference is in their pattern of ‘functioning’. ATP is the biochemical compound from the process of ATP cycle, while mitochondria is the structure and the basic ‘functioning unit' of the cell. Every cell has mitochondria; ATP is made and energy is released, and the cell functions.
An ATP case has a total emphasis on the ‘process’, while the mitochondria case has emphasis on the ‘functioning’.
After reading this article, I hope you can understand the basic themes of sarcodes and what the function in sarcode is.
I have illustrated these themes in my previous articles: http://hpathy.com/homeopathy-papers/exploring-sarcodes-as-a-physiological-process/ http://www.interhomeopathy.org/exploring-sarcodes-a-very-hurried-man
