Catherine Coulter passed away on the evening of February 24, 2014 at the age of 80

Her daughter Marian wrote the following: “I send to you the tremendously sad news that Catherine passed away at home, from a heart-related condition. It is a really heavy blow for the whole family.”

Catherine R. Coulter was one of the greatest homeopaths of recent decades and was well-known for her lively remedy descriptions

She was born in 1934 and first encountered homeopathy when she consulted a homeopath during a holiday in France for treatment of her allergies. She was asked to return the following day and the homeopath then said to her that he had consulted the famous American Dr Kent about her case. On returning to the United States, she asked about this Dr Kent, only to be told that he had been dead since 1916!

Her interest was aroused and Catherine Coulter proceeded to teach herself homeopathy. She started by “devouring” Boericke, followed by Hering's 10-volume Materia Medica, and finally, she stumbled on Kent's Repertory.

She started by treating especially friends and family. In the 1970s, she met various homeopathic doctors, who were very impressed by her knowledge of remedies and asked her to give talks on the subject. Since that time, she taught at the National Center of Homeopathy in Millersville.

Together with Dr A.U. Ramakrishnan, she wrote the standard work A Homeopathic Approach to Cancer.

Major works:
Homeopathic Sketches of Children's Types
Portraits of Homeopathic Medicines

Dear Colleagues,

So often and for so many years have we been received wonderfully well on all continents for the yearly congresses of the League!   The French Homoeopathic Medical Doctors are both honoured and pleased to welcome you all to Paris, the City of Light and of the Enlightenment, last residence of our common Master, Samuel Hahnemann.   I do wish that as many of us as possible may share a warm and friendly high level meeting of the Homeopathic Art.   For the 2014 Congress, it was decided to focus on the clinical practice of each of us.  This will allow us to have exciting exchanges for there exist many different approaches and strategies around the world.

The venue chosen for the Congress is particularly special: the Palais des Congrès in Paris, an exclusive location centrally situated in the heart of the city.

We will do our utmost to make your stay pleasant, comfortable, rewarding and unforgettable even ...!

Spider and scorpions remedies in homeopathy by Jonathan Hardy

Often mistrusted, sometimes loathed, these creeping, crawling creatures are among the most distinctive Animal remedies in the homeopathic materia medica. Exploiting his zoological background and extensive clinical experience, Jonathan Hardy offers a vivid and enticing portrait of the Arachnid Group and its members, for both adults and children.

General themes, extracted from provings, case and repertories, are presented for the Arachnids overall, and there are clear differentiations for Spiders and Scorpions old and new. Typical physical pathology includes neurobehavioural  and eating disorders, chronic fatigue and extremity symptoms.

These main strands are skilfully interwoven with information on miasms and specific biological features, offering choice morsels for individual remedies. We learn, for example, that size and self-confidence are central issues for the passive species Aranea diadema, whose much smaller male risks being eaten during mating.  Aranea ixobola has the greatest anxiety regarding family members, and may suffer from psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis; while concerns over safety loom particularly large for Tegenaria atrica.

The analysis is supported throughout by colour photos and nearly twenty case histories, completing  a fine web of interconnected material and shedding valuable light on this corner of the Animal Kingdom.

Survival the Reptile - Volume 1 and 2 by Rajan Sankaran

The class of reptiles in the animal kingdom is an array of creatures from the lizards to the extinct gigantic dinosaurs that includes the shelled turtles and tortoises, the huge and powerfully built crocodiles and alligators, and the limbless, slithering snakes.

What do reptiles have in common? Reptiles are coldblooded. This gives them
a distinct disadvantage compared to other creatures. Unlike mammals, reptiles are not able to sustain exertion in order to escape from a predator or pursue a prey. Being coldblooded, they are not able to generate heat and need to come out in the open to bask in the sun.

So what survival strategy do they adopt?

Each reptile adopts its own unique survival pattern, yet reptiles in common are often hidden, camouflaged and rely upon sudden and surprise attack.

Dr. Rajan Sankaran brought into homoeopathy a unique integration between the symptoms of a remedy and the characteristics of the source of the remedy from nature. His first book in the animal series Survival - the Mollusc clearly delineates the survival strategy of the molluscs and its representation in the symptomatology and cases of mollusc remedies. This book on reptiles does the same for the reptile remedies. Coauthored with Dr. Meghna Shah, this book studies the survival strategy of reptiles in general and each reptile in particular. This book shows how this information, integrated with traditional information of these remedies and with clinical cases from several experienced homoeopaths, makes our remedy selection far more precise than ever before.

Homeopathic Mind Maps - Remedies of the class Aves - Birds by Alicia Lee

The definitive homeopathic Bird book! New from Alicia Lee, best-selling author of the Homeopathic Mind Maps Trilogy.

Creative and insightful, sophisticated and simple, Alicia Lee's exciting new mind map book brings us 78 Bird remedies, several case studies and numerous differential charts, many of which are new to our materia medica.

Her unique mind map format allows the psychological, emotional and physical picture of the remedy to clearly emerge.  The essence can be seen at a glance and individualizing symptoms are highlighted.

The book is laid out in a logical, easily understood pattern based on the taxonomic division of the birds, allowing for clarity of comparison.

Lee has done thorough research and often gives us a description of the source of the substance, the correct scientific name of the bird, as well as its place in human history, science, mythology, legends and folklore. This provides
fascinating glimpses into the fundamental nature of the remedy.

Excerpts from poems or stories, or quotes from literature provide context and a deeper perspective into the realm of a remedy. For example, the story of Empress Elisabeth of the Austro-Hungarian Empire gives us a moving tale of love and tormenting heartbreak that leads us deeply into the essence of Cygnus Olor.

Each mind map is illustrated with an apt and beautiful photograph of the bird itself, further enhancing our insight into the character of the remedy.

These many elements come together as a beautiful work of art; this book is not only an indispensable life-long reference book for homeopaths, it is also a treasure trove of beauty and interest, bringing us a vast body of knowledge in a remarkably concise, clear and uncluttered presentation. Alongside her earlier trilogy of mind map books, it is a magnificent addition to any homeopath's library.

Homeopathy in Mental Health congress 2013 with Scholten, Hardy, Gandhi, Master, Yakir

Over 500 participants from 32 different countries took part in this unique congress. It was a meeting point for the international homeopathy movement with a frank and intense atmosphere of cooperation and exchange.

On the first day of the congress, Jan Scholten introduced the high-level structure of the plant kingdom. The same natural laws governing the series and stages of the periodic table also underlie the tremendous variety of the system of plant families. Jan Scholten‘s detailed introduction included how to use the new system, with a series of cases featuring rarely used remedies such as Crocosmia crocosmiiflora, Acorus calamus and Eccremocarpus scaber.

Later, by way of contrast, the homeopath and botanist Michal Yakir presented the plant system that she herself has developed. This system is already being used by a number of homeopaths, including Mahesh Gandhi. Yakir classifies the remedies according to the Cronquist taxonomy. She has developed a logical and easy-to-use
method to take advantage of this botanical system in homeopathy.

On the second day of the congress, the popular speaker Farokh Master described his experience in the homeopathic treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. He summed up the state of homeopathy in the treatment of mental illness from Hahnemann to the current day, stressing the importance of communicating clinical experience so that the materia medica can be supplemented in this area. He demonstrated his approach in practice using cases of bipolar disorder (Camphora, Heroinum).

Mahesh Gandhi discussed obsessive-compulsive disorders, presenting some of the remedies he uses (including Boron, Calcium nitricum, Kalium bromatum, Crotalus cascavella, Mancinella, Anacardium) and their groups in a way that made it easy for congress participants to clearly grasp their essence.

Jonathan Hardy impressively rounded off this inspirational congress by leading the audience deep into the world of the mammals. He showed cases from the realm of the animals that were both fascinating and touching, with the pictures of remedies such as Lac lupinum and Lac leoninum.
